Let’s Not Sacrifice The Old People

COVID sucks. It really sucks for old people. And it just so happens that most volunteers who operate the polls each election are over 60 – i.e., old.

This means that:

1. There are a lot less volunteers this year than in previous elections due to the whole risk of dying thing
2. If there aren’t enough poll workers, voting places get consolidated which means longer lines and higher chances of getting fucked over
3. We need younger people to operate the polls instead so we can protect Grandma and keep the lines manageable

We know that leaving the house at all nowadays is risky, but it’s less risky for the young folks than the olds. And it’s a risk worth taking to save our democracy from the people trying to fuck it up.

Power The Polls is a civic action group we like that is actively recruiting poll workers for Election Day.

If you’ve ever wanted to:

• Give out those dope “I Voted” stickers
• Prevent staffing shortages that would result in closed polling places
• Run your finger down the big book of names in the voter registry and tell someone where to sign
• Ensure the voting machines run smoothly, minimizing lines and delays
• Help voters in your community navigate issues when voting
• Contribute to SAVING OUR FUCKING DEMOCRACY

Then dammit, being a poll worker might just be your calling.

They hook you up with fancy PPE, a clipboard, all that good shit. And best of all you save an old person from risking a painful, lonely death just to help their neighbors vote.

It’s a win-win-win!

If operating the poll itself isn’t your bag, you can still help people not get fucked.

Protect the Vote is a group focused on monitoring the polls for shady behavior and protecting at-risk groups from getting fucked by voter suppression.

As a nonpartisan volunteer poll monitor, you’ll assist voters on Election Day whenever they run into any problems voting. This will differ from state to state, due to varying Covid restrictions. But no matter what, you’ll make a crucial difference for voters — connecting them with the trained legal professionals and resources they need to safely and securely cast their votes free from fuckery.
